Celebrating the Brilliance

By Howard Male, "DVD: Sufi Soul: the Mystic Music of Islam, (Reverboat)" - The Independent - London, England, UK

Because Sufism is a peace-loving, music-loving and pluralistic take on Islam, Sufis are often persecuted by Islamic hard-liners.

But director Simon Broughton doesn't dwell on this fact; instead he concentrates on celebrating the brilliance and diversity of Sufi music, and fills his modest but vibrant film with colourful footage taken during his visits to Pakistan, Turkey and Morocco.

Should you wish to become a whirling dervish, the dizziness apparently stops after a couple of months, after which ecstasy will be yours.
